CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT SPECIALIST, Greensboro, NC

Make a difference in the lives of young children.  Full-time Curriculum Development Specialist needed for early childhood educational publisher located in Charlotte, NC.  The candidate will assist in the development of early childhood curriculum, as well as writing and proofreading various other products to ensure accuracy and consistency.  The candidate must have a degree or certificate in early childhood or related field, knowledge of current best practices in early childhood education, writing experience and the ability to work with a team and meet deadlines.  Training and presentation skills a plus.

Job Summary

A Curriculum Development Specialist is a member of the HighReach Learning creative writing team who assists in developing monthly early childhood curriculum programs. A Curriculum Development Specialist is responsible for keeping abreast of educational trends (e.g., state standards, NCLB, Early Reading First, etc.) that impact the development of HighReach Learning curriculum materials.

Job Responsibilities

  • To coordinate monthly curriculum program(s) from the planning stages all the way through to finished product that is ready for shipping to the customer.
  • Creating new ideas and support materials for monthly curriculum and Teacher Resource products.
  • A Curriculum Development Specialist is required to continue to grow in their understanding of the early childhood marketplace. On occasion, Curriculum Development Specialist may be required to attend early childhood conferences in the capacity of attendee, presenter, and/or exhibit booth support staff. He/she must also gather and distribute information from other professional sources, such as periodicals, research, etc. to the applicable parties within the HighReach Learning organization. Annual membership fees to professional organizations will be evaluated on an individual basis.
  • A Curriculum Development Specialist also must be prepared to write and present workshops for a variety of settings, such as, but not limited to, training conferences to enable the end user a better understanding of HighReach Learning’s products and in-house training for HighReach Learning staff.
  • A Curriculum Development Specialist must maintain a professional demeanor and appearance at all times in preparation for spontaneous organizational or customer related interactions.
  • A Curriculum Development Specialist must work closely with the sales staff to provide support to identified issues by way of, but not limited to, making relevant calls to key individuals, developing support documents, and attending meetings.
  • Each Curriculum Development Specialist is responsible for flow-reading designated curriculum programs as part of the proofing process. The focus of the flow-reading process includes, but is not limited to, attention to appropriate educational content, consistency of curriculum presentation, organization and feasibility of information, and style guide issues.
  • Coordinate group planning sessions for monthly curriculum to which Curriculum Development Specialist is assigned

*     Write monthly curriculum in a comprehensive and educationally sound manner

*     Supervise and maintain consistency of curriculum materials from month to month

*    Compose activities included in curriculum materials in an appropriate, creative, hands-on, and fun manner

*    Supply survey questions and assist in compiling results for upcoming year of curriculum planning

  • Follow-up planning sessions by carefully proofing line-ups for ALL HighReach Learning curriculum programs
  • Assist with customer service as needed

*     Assist with in-house product training for HighReach Learning staff

*    Consult with sales staff to assist in servicing customers on the basis of curriculum details and understanding

  • Write and proof copy for catalog, other advertising, and presentations as needed
  • Stay current with educational trends occurring in the early childhood marketplace

Payroll and Reporting Status

The Curriculum Development Specialist is a salaried position exempt from overtime. This person is fulltime and reports directly to the Vice President and General Manager of HighReach Learning.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or certificate in Early Childhood or related field

  • Experience teaching in an early childhood setting

  • Knowledge of best practices in early childhood education

  • Writing experience

  • Ability to work with a team

  • Ability to meet deadlines

  • Writing samples required pre-interview
