PARENT EMPOWERMENT (PEP) FACILITATOR TRAINING

You are invited to take advantage of this excellent opportunity to become a Parent Empowerment Project (PEP) facilitator through an intensive, interactive training seminar. Experience this training to become prepared to implement the PEP curriculum and provide the parents you serve with a unique, parent driven, culturally relevant approach to parent education and empowerment. Participants will review child development knowledge, explore values and attitudes while strengthening facilitation skills. In addition, participants will become familiar with the array of topics featured in the Successful Parenting module; learn how to “weave the story” to reinforce the lessons using the African American Culture and Latino Culture modules; and build parents’ self esteem as well as cultural awareness.

Strengthening Families is rapidly becoming a nationally adopted framework for child abuse and neglect prevention in early care and education programs, child welfare departments, school systems, and others. It can help program developers, policymakers and advocates embed effective prevention strategies into existing systems. Strengthening Families universal, evidence-based model is built on promoting family strengths and resiliency. By building five Protective Factors, parents have what they need to parent effectively, even under stress.

The Strengthening Families national network includes program staff, state leaders, legislators, policy advocates, and others. Join national experts as they share innovative practices and experiences of practitioners and families that have been positively impacted by the Strengthening Families Initiative around the country and learn how you can incorporate these strategies in your program.

A GATHERING OF PARENTS: STRENGTHENING FAMILIES FOR OPTIMAL CHILD OUTCOMES

As a result of extensive research, the Center for the Study of Social Policy identified five Protective Factors which contribute to optimal child outcomes and reduce the likelihood of child abuse and neglect when they are present and robust in families. The gathering of parents will learn about the Protective Factors and strategies which build them in all families.They will also have an opportunity to reflect on the challenges and joys of the awesome responsibility of parenting.
