EARLY CHILDHOOD PRESCHOOL DIRECTOR
MERRILL PALMER SKILLMAN INSTITUTE
The Merrill Palmer Skillman
Child Development Laboratory (CDL), an early childhood preschool and child care
center, is seeking a director of our preschool and lead it to national prominence.
The director will work closely with the
institute’s administration and faculty to develop new clinical and intervention
programs for children with special needs, to develop high-quality curriculum
and especially early reading programs, and to create a stimulating and nurturant creative environment for the optimal development
of young children. Salary is highly
competitive with a 10 to 12-month contract, vacation time, and all the benefits
associated with employment at a major university (
Minimum Requirements:
Masters degree or Ph.D. in education, psychology or related discipline
Two years prior experience
teaching or providing clinical services to young children
At least two years
administrative experience as a director of a high-quality preschool or related
educational or clinical program
Experience working in a
research environment
Grants management and
application experience
Past presentations at
conferences; evidence of leading educational workshops or training
Knowledge of NAEYC
accreditation guidelines
Extensive computer skills
Key responsibilities of the Director include:
•Provide vision to lead the CDL’s operations
effectively and to move the program to become a demonstration site for early
educational enhancement
•Lead development and implementation of early childhood education programs and
curriculum.
•Lead, inspire, and motivate teachers to achieve their highest levels of
performance for the benefit of the children and their families.
•Partner with parents in the effective education of their children; facilitate
programs to engage parents in children’s development
•Develop and maintain effective regional and national partnerships in the field
of early childhood education.
•Develop fundraising and marketing programs to support the CDL
Develop undergraduate and graduate internship
programs in collaboration with faculty
Assist professors to develop research
initiatives at the CDL, establish human subjects
protection procedures and informed consent procedures in collaboration with
institute director
Develop an assessment protocol for all
children in the CDL, oversee implementation, parent
communication and data management of assessments
Assist in the planning and design of
educational workshops for preschool teachers in the area to disseminate
evidence-based practice
