Who We Are
BCDI Detroit has been part of the NBCDI network for over 30 years. The Detroit Affiliate is passionate about working with community partners to help enrich the lives of Black children and their families. Detroit is a unique city with resilient and strong citizens, BCDI Detroit is engaging those citizens in achieving the NBCDI mission "to improve and advance the quality of life for Black children and their families through education and advocacy."
BCDI Detroit is dedicated to promoting and supporting efforts in the focus areas of: Policy, Early Care and Education, Health, Family Engagement, Literacy, and Child Welfare. Specifically, BCDI Detroit has been especially active in programs and events around literacy and public policy.
• Literacy - Maintaining fidelity to the National model, we are participating and promoting activities that foster children's ability to read proficiently by the end of 3rd grade. We engage in efforts that promote reading and encourage families to ignite and maintain a daily family reading habit.
• Public Policy/Advocacy - we prioritize realistic public policies that child and family advocates can collectively promote to improve and support equity for young black children and their families considering the current local, state and federal political and economic landscapes.
Please contact BCDI Detroit if you are interested in partnering and/or cultivating volunteers for your community event.
