It is my honor and an esteemed privilege to announce the National Black Child Development Institute's 50th Anniversary celebration! With unwavering commitment, for 50 years the National Black Child Development Institute (NBCDI) has remained committed to our mission, "to improve and advance the quality of life for Black Children and families through education and advocacy." Not one of our 50 years would have been possible without the vision, commitment, passion and genius of our founder and president emerita, Ms. Evelyn K. Moore.
NBCDI is celebrating 50 years filled with major wins, significant academic gains for our children, unprecedented professional achievement throughout the diaspora, the advancement of millions of Black children and families and a sustained presence on the national education policy landscape. We have also learned valuable lessons that inform our current practices and will inform our next 50 years. Therefore, our theme, 50 Forward, is informed by the "Sankofa*," a metaphorical symbol used by the Akan people of Ghana that expresses the importance of reaching back to knowledge gained in the past and bringing it into the present in order to make positive progress.
NBCDI is officially beginning our 50th Anniversary celebration during Black History Month with the release our 50th Anniversary Champions for Children Toolkit, which gives you personal access to graphics, information and images that equip you to celebrate our first 50 years in your local community and beyond. The toolkit:
We invite you to join us as we celebrate our first 50 years and begin the work of the next half century. We are grateful for your support and look forward to seeing you at our incredible events, recognizing your plans to help us celebrate in your community and hearing from you in our online communities: #50Forward.
