National Black Child Development Institute
For 48 years, the National Black Child Development Institute (NBCDI) has been at the forefront of engaging leaders, policymakers, professionals, and parents around critical and timely issues that directly impact Black children and their families. We are a trusted partner in delivering culturally relevant resources that respond to the unique strengths and needs of Black children around issues including early childhood education, health, child welfare, literacy, and family engagement. With the support of our Affiliate network in communities across the country, we are committed to our mission “to improve and advance the quality of life for Black children and their families through education and advocacy.”

The Fellowship Manager will coordinate all fellowship activities and related initiatives under the advisement of the NBCDI Executive Team and Senior Advisors for this initiative.

  • Manage daily operation of the fellowship program and ensure the program is meeting deliverables in a timely manner
  • Coordinate the recruitment process of leaders who will nominate potential Fellows
  • Assist with recruitment and contracting of facilitators and other supporting parties
  • Manage travel, logistics and financial disbursements
  • Provide onsite support at convenings
  • Support fund development by drafting grant reports and researching potential funders


Fellowship Implementation

Project Planning:

  • Monitor project plan and timelines
  • Identify project risks
  • Develop mitigation plans as needed

Partner Engagement:

  • Liaise with consultants/facilitators
  • Coordinate and participate in meetings with stakeholders
  • Engage fellowship advisors
  • Facilitate communication between mentors, fellowship advisors, consultants, staff, and other applicable parties

Participant Recruitment and Selection:

  • Create marketing strategy for fellowship
  • Recruit program participants
  • Manage recruitment and selection process of fellows (Including advisor engagement)
  • Communicate with participants and selection advisors

Fellowship Implementation:

  • Manage the editing and production of program materials
  • Manage all program logistics, such as identifying dates, securing venues, and
  • coordinating with colleagues to place food and print orders
  • Serve as day-of manager for in-person and virtual workshops/convenings, ensuring that each session runs smoothly
  • Provide ongoing program and logistical support to fellows, faculty and advisors as needed
  • Coordinate/facilitate fellowship coaching engagement, scheduling pre and post coaching engagement and mid program check in calls for each fellow (in addition to ensuring fellow calls with coaches are scheduled/completed)
  • Provide workshop/convening support to faculty/consultants/advisors by holding pre and post session calls and providing necessary program documents/session agendas in advance of prep calls
  • Manage program budget to ensure all products, catering, facilitators/consultants remain on target

Program Evaluation:

  • Create surveys and focus groups to gather feedback from fellows, advisors and other stakeholders
  • Analyze data to assess impact
  • Evaluate and report outcomes of the fellowship to funders

Project Strategy:

  • Work with senior team in developing fellowship design and implementation
  • Incorporate feedback to implement updates and changes
  • Perform research to improve fellowship
  • Identify new partners or funders/resources to increase program performance or efficiency


  • Ensure competent communication skills that reflect the organization’s values
  • Coordinate all fellow communications, such as drafting program acceptance letters and contracts for selected program participants and sending all pre-work and homework materials and day of logistical details
  • Provide the communication team with application deadlines and marketing content to include on the NBCDI website and in distribution materials.
  • Use proper language in all projects, messaging, and recruitment that reflects the NBCDI mission

Team Collaboration

  • Participate in regular retreats, weekly team meetings, etc.
  • Support other NBCDI programs as needed

Salary Range: Commensurate with Experience
